Theatre Artists and Staff Members!

Welcome to your SHOTGUN PLAYERS Inclusivity Survey Companion Resource!

Shotgun’s EDIB (Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and Belonging) committee (including staff, company, and board members) works with Poprouser, an independent third-party company to offer this survey for everyone who has recently worked for Shotgun.

Our goal is to get candid feedback on your experience so we can improve our company with updated policies that reflect our ideals, and foster an environment in which you can thrive and belong.

The feedback collected by us in this survey is 100% anonymous.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is EDIB?

EDIB stands for Equality, Diversity, Inclusion, and Belonging. But more specifically:

  • Equality: Ensuring everyone is treated fairly and has access to the same opportunities.
  • Diversity: Recognizing and valuing differences among individuals, such as those related to age, race, gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation, disability, and more.
  • Inclusion: Creating environments where all individuals feel welcomed, respected, and valued, enabling their full participation.
  • Belonging: Fostering a sense of acceptance and community, where individuals feel they are an integral part of the team.
Why is it important for us to complete the Inclusivity Survey?

Because your voice helps shape the culture all the staff and artists work in.

This survey gives leadership real, honest feedback about what’s working, what’s not, and where Shotgun Players needs to grow. It’s how we spot patterns, close gaps, and help Shotgun Players become more inclusive, fair, and supportive.

If you don’t speak up, the issues you care about might stay hidden, and nothing would ever get done about it. If everyone shares openly, knowing they are protected, Shotgun can continue building something better—together.

What if I want to complete the survey verbally?

If you’d like to speak with someone on the Shotgun Players EDIB committee to respond to the survey instead of filling out the form, you can set up a meeting with one of the committee members by sending an email to edib@shotgunplayers.org. If you prefer, you can also request a virtual meeting with one of the independent Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and Belonging (EDIB) consultants from Poprouser by emailing deib@poprouser with the Subject Line: Shotgun EDIB Inclusivity Survey Response. Click the Meet with Us button above to start.

What if I want to report an incident? Something happened and I don't want to put it in the survey.

If you intend to report an incident or have Poprouser begin a preliminary confidential investigation into any of your experiences, please fill out this form here. Named individuals (witnesses or individuals who were named as causing harm) are contacted as part of the investigation for the purpose of information gathering. At no point will the investigator violate anonymity without the reporter’s consent.

How anonymous is this survey?

This survey is completely anonymous. We do not collect names, IP addresses, or any other identifying information. We used email addresses to send out the survey notification, and allow you to save progress in the survey, but do not report on them or use them in any other way.

Often, some folks choose to reveal themselves in text responses in the survey, and that is okay. We will still act as the trusted 3rd party and only communicate your feedback as part of  grouped “themes” – action areas for Shotgun Players to improve the organization, so you can have a more inclusive and satisfying work experience.

We do, however, collect timestamps and your responses, organized in spreadsheet format so that we can analyze, group, and report to the Shotgun Players EDIB Committee on responses in the aggregate only.

In our years working with the Shotgun Players, we have never broken this position of trust with you or the organization. We will keep protecting data, and recommending theme-based improvements.

How anonymous is the Incident Report and Investigation?

We acknowledge that the Bay Area Theatre community is small and close-knit. Therefore, we redact names and identifying details even when we are communicating sensitive issues to the Managing Director upon concluding our investigations and incident reporting. We must respect the wishes of the incident reporters.

However, if a response includes disclosure of violence, threats of violence, or potential past or ongoing criminal activity, we are legally and ethically obligated to escalate to the Managing Director for appropriate action and notification to law enforcement. In these cases, the internal policies of Shotgun Players will dictate what comes next once we notify the Managing Director.
